CONGRATULATIONS Ipswich for supporting the Channel 9 TODAY show live broadcast from Queens Park last Friday morning. It was tremendous to see so many happy people out and about enjoying the live entertainment. Special thanks must go to the TODAY team for their outstanding support for Ipswich and the Australian community. Many proud Ipswich residents went to a great deal of effort to create banners and signs. Karl, Lisa, Georgie, Cam, Richard and Steve really enjoyed their visit, in particular the warm and energetic welcome from Ipswich fans.
Mick Boyle of Churchill Abattoir was the highest bidder last Friday morning on River 94.9 and has scored an exclusive ride in the Jack Perkins #11 Dodo Racing Team V8 Supercar. Thank you to new team sponsor Corporate Security Solutions for donating the ride and for supporting the Mayor’s Community Fund. Mick’s winning bid was $1800. He will take to the track for three laps of Queensland Raceway this Friday at 4.30pm.
Pua Samia of Bundamba won the recent Miss Samoa Australia Beauty Pageant. This is one of the biggest annual events for the Samoan community in Australia. The pageant was founded in 2004 with the objectives of showcasing the talents of young Tama'ita'i (ladies) in Samoan culture. It highlights the inner beauty and attributes of a woman and focuses on the celebration of women, building role models and encouraging future leaders. It also provides an opportunity to view, learn and practice some of the most significance parts of the culture and heritage of Samoa.
Ipswich Little Theatre is currently celebrating their 40th year since relocating to the Incinerator Theatre from the old Town Hall. They have a display in the Ipswich Art Gallery during August and September and in conjunction with this, are presenting live performances. One of those last week was from S-Troupe. What makes S-Troupe so remarkable is that the entire cast is made up of people with disabilities. It makes me very proud to be Mayor when I witness such a strong spirit of cooperation between many different groups in our community.
A weekly column from the Mayor is also printed in the Queensland Times,
Ipswich Advertiser, Ipswich News and Gatton Star. To contact the Mayor's office please call 07 38106201 during business hours.
