THE Ipswich Arts Foundation will celebrate the tenth year of the Ipswich Art Gallery with a special fundraising dinner on Friday September 4. A wonderful evening is planned with an exceptional menu and entertainment from multi award winning vocalist Katie Noonan. Supporters of the Foundation are invited to take part in this opportunity to assist in securing more acquisitions for the City of Ipswich Collection. All funds raised will maintain the growth of Australia’s premier regional gallery. For bookings or more information please call the gallery on 3810 7222.

Rodney Smith had the ride of lifetime in the Jack Perkins Dodo and Corporate Security Solutions sponsored V8 supercar at Queensland Raceway last Friday. The ride was secured by Mick Boyle at Churchill Abattoir after he was the highest bidder in the River 94.9 on-air auction the previous week. Mick decided it was a good idea to raffle the prize for staff and Rodney was the lucky winner. Thank you to the Jack Perkins new team sponsor Corporate Security Solutions for arranging the V8 ride and for supporting the Mayor’s Community Fund.

Seniors Week was celebrated last Thursday at Evan Marginson Park Goodna. A well organised day featured live entertainment and stalls of interest for all seniors. It was great to drop in with local councillor Paul Tully and the chairperson of the Youth and Seniors committee Cr Sheila Ireland. Many community groups and government agencies were represented on the day which had a carnival atmosphere. Community events such as these give residents a tremendous feeling of well-being, a place to belong and builds pride in our city.

Local apprentices who have been excelling in the workplace were recognised at the annual Apprenticeships Queensland awards dinner last Friday night. The gala event was held at Swifts Booval. Awards were presented in a number of categories including Trainee of the Year and Apprentice of the Year. Congratulations to all nominees and winners. The night also had strong support from many sponsors who understand the importance of encouraging excellence in the trades.

A weekly column from the Mayor is also printed in the Queensland Times, Ipswich Advertiser, Ipswich News and Gatton Star.
